Quieting Negative Self-Talk: How Can You Improve Your Inner Dialogue?

Quieting negative self-talk. From Negative Self-Talk to Positive Self-Talk

Quieting your negative self-talk involves going beyond your present circumstances that are based on disgusting past events.

At some point in your life, you’ll need to learn the skills that are necessary to deal with what’s going on in your environment. And the sooner the better.

If your circumstances are overwhelming, you need extra support. Look for family, friends and professional help to overcome the trauma. There’s always hope.

There are ways to turn around negative self-talk.

Dealing with Unhelpful Thoughts

People indulge in negative self-talk as long as they think it’s innocuous. You can have mental conversations with people and you say things you won’t say to them in person. You’ll say things to yourself you won’t say to anyone you love.

First, it’s important to understand that thoughts are powerful and far from innocuous. If you persist on negative thoughts they will materialize in your life through negative experiences.

You have acquired these habits from past generations. It’s time for a change in consciousness to bring harmony back into your life.

From Negative Self-Talk to Positive Self-Talk

If you have negative self-talk, you are focusing on what you don’t want and that creates more of what you don’t want.

You have to choose a new mindset. Focus on what you want.

At first, it’ll be a battle between your old thoughts and your new thoughts. Persistence is key.

It’s tough to choose happiness when your circumstances lead to more sadness. There’s no way around this beyond your willingness to begin again.

New generations in your life won’t have to go through these predicaments if you stop yourself and teach your kids there’s a different way with your example.

Allow yourself to have dreams again.

In order to have what you want, you have to believe you already have it. You have to believe in yourself.

I enjoyed creating an intention mandala. I created one every year for four years until I considered it was unnecessary to create another one.

Also, you can create a mind movie to visualize what you want. Use music and images that inspire you towards your dreams. I use Shotcut—free, open source, video editor software—to create mine.

Where you’re right now, some people call it the dark night of the soul and it’s not a happy place. You have to look for the light, searching for positive outcomes in a negative situation.

How to Retrain Your Brain to Think Positively

Your brain is wonderful creating habits. If you feed your brain with harmonious thoughts it will bring lovely experiences.

However, if you’ve been entertaining negative thoughts, you have created a habit in you. Neural paths in your brain that bring experiences as negative as your thoughts.

These neural paths will put a fight to stay. That’s how the brain works and create habits. That’s why you need to be persistent and shield your mind to negativity.

Choose carefully what you watch on TV. Consider the music you play over and over, Do you want that experience in your life? Movies, commercials, news, conversations, etc. Everything feeds your brain. Your subconscious mind reproduces what you pay attention to and give you more of that.

Choose joyful experiences. What does make you happy? How can you do more of that today?

How to Motivate Yourself out of a Rut

All you’re living today is part of past thoughts and feelings. While you’re working on changing your thoughts and feelings for the better, you can experience some chaos in your life.

When you are on a rut, the best way to motivate you out of it is to ask questions. I like these questions by Dain Heer

What’s right about this I’m not getting?
How can it get any better than this?
What else is possible?

Your mindset is stuck in a conclusion. You believe there’s no way out, for example. When you ask questions, you give your brain free rein to use all its resources to bring you a solution.

Wrapping Up

Negative self-talk is a habit. It’s ingrain in your brain through repetition. You have learned it from your parents, relatives, teachers, friends, etc.

Now you know better. You know that thoughts are powerful. Match your thoughts with feelings and you bring that into existence.

A healthy mindset creates peace of mind. Work your way towards your dreams. Visualize them. Ask questions.

You have to believe your dreams are possible and you deserve a wonderful life.
